Organic Cotton, Muslin and Textile Labels: What to Check

Organic Cotton, Muslin and Textile Labels: What to Check

Understand fabric descriptions and textile labels before choosing a baby gift. Check product materials, care instructions and any certification details.

Fabric terms describe different things. When choosing baby clothing or a blanket, read the individual product’s material information and care label. Do not use a general description such as “natural,” “muslin” or “soft” as proof of certification.

Read the product’s actual material information

Look for the fibre composition, dimensions and care instructions. Ask about anything missing. Products in the same collection may use different materials, so a claim on one item should not automatically be applied to the entire shop.

Texture and appearance in a photograph help you compare designs, but do not establish a fabric’s composition or certification status.

Check a certification rather than assuming one

GOTS is a standard for organic textiles. A product represented as GOTS certified must meet its certification and labelling conditions. Ask for the relevant product or supplier information when a certification matters to your purchase.

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 concerns textiles tested for harmful substances. It should not be treated as interchangeable with an organic cotton claim. Read the actual label and its scope.

This guide does not certify Rosallie Baby products. Use the individual listing and ask us for any supporting information you need before ordering.

Keep material choice separate from health promises

A textile description does not establish that a garment will prevent skin irritation or suit every baby. Avoid choosing based on blanket promises such as “chemical-free” or “allergy-proof.” If you have a specific health concern, ask your child’s healthcare professional.

A practical shopping checklist

  • Read the fibre and construction information for the exact item.
  • Check dimensions or garment measurements.
  • Review washing and care instructions.
  • Ask for evidence of any certification important to you.
  • Check name placement and personalization options separately.

For a keepsake, start with our personalized blankets or newborn gift sets. Contact us with the product name if you need a material detail confirmed.

Does a handmade label prove a textile certification?

No. How something is made and whether it has a certification are separate questions.

Should I rely on a collection-wide claim?

Check the item itself. Different products and components can have different materials and care requirements.
